Knee pain is a serious physical condition that needs immediate medical attention for proper diagnosis and treatment. It can come from knee ligament damage or a chronic condition. Knowing the cause of the knee pain will make it easy for you to establish treatment that will relieve pain, stiffness, and swelling. However, if you are suffering from knee pain right now and you are seeking fast and easy ways to relieve the discomfort, you can try these treatments right in the comfort of your own home.
- Take a rest. Stop any activity you are doing prior to the knee pain, this may be the cause of the discomfort. Prolonged sitting, walking, squatting, kneeling and running, can cause your knee to become stiff and sore.
- Ice pack. Knee pain is often caused by inflammation of the joints. Put an ice pack to reduce pain and swelling. If an ice pack is not available, you can use a frozen bottle. Do this for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.
- Stretching. Do this to relax your knee which can help in reducing pain. You may do stretching by sitting down in the floor with your legs straight out, reach the legs with your both hands. Hold it for eight to ten seconds and repeat for a few times. Do some glute stretches as well.
- Elevate. Prolonged use of the knee causes discomfort. Elevate your knee above your heart level and ice it for a few minutes. Doing this restricts blood flow, which helps in reducing pain.
- Massage. Gently rub the sore area to encourage blood flow. Do not put too much pressure on the injured area while rubbing it because it might worsen the injury.
If the pain persists, it is advised that you see your physician to address the proper treatment for your knee pain.
